208 (Reserve) Squadron is responsible for the training of Royal Air Force and Royal Navy fast-jet pilots. 208 (R) Squadron teaches basic handling of the Hawk. 19(R) Squadron teaches tactics and engineering skills. The squadron has been using the Hawk since 1994, having previously been one of the last operators of the Buccaneer. The badge on the tail fin is from the 1930's when 208 Sqn was serving in the Middle East. The wings denote flight and the eye is the Egyptian god 'Horus' which together depict the Squadron's role of aerial reconnaissance.
The BAE Systems Hawk is a British single-engine, advanced jet trainer aircraft. It first flew in 1974 as the Hawker Siddeley Hawk. The Hawk is used by the Royal Air Force, and other air forces, as either a trainer or a low-cost combat aircraft. The Hawk is still in production with over 900 Hawks sold to 18 customers around the world. |
