PR99408 Corgi   F6F-3 Hellcat - VF-27, US Navy (Marianas Turkey Shoot). LE £ 0.00
      Out of stock
Corgi Predators 1/72 scale Hellcat is a truly outstanding model. Complete with optional undercarriage and canopy positions, bomb and rocket load, stand, info leaflet and stylized sharks mouth insignia it really does have to be seen to be appreciated. It is a prime example of just how good diecast manufacturers have become at producing highly accurate scale models.
The F6F “Hellcat” was basically designed as the “Zero Killer”. It could fly about an average 55 mph faster than the Zero and it was heavier and more powerful. The Hellcat also had the highest kill ratio of any American fighter plane during WWII (19 to 1). US Navy pilots referred the Hellcat as the "Aluminum Tank" due to its rigid construction, which subsequently saved many of their lives. The F6F was one of the most feared and successful planes in WWII.
This F6F-3, nicknamed “White 17”, was flown by pilots from VF-27 from the carrier USS Princeton on the Marianas Turkey Shoot in June 1944.
These babies display superbly and are now hard to find.
